Last year, UEFA introduced the Nations League: a competition where all European national teams participated, with the winners of each group getting a ticket to the next Euro. In case you missed it, there is also a Final Four where the winner gets a title!
It seems like a rather uninspiring competition with the coaches making experiments and the 4 finalists being Portugal, Switzerland, England and Netherlands. Yesterday was the first game where Portugal took on Switzerland.
I sat in front of my TV not in the best mood to watch the game. I thought this was because it is the beginning of summer, players are tired from the long season and they only thing they want is holidays – but I forgot about Mr CR7! A man who doesn’t want to lose even in backgammon, a person whose ego is so big that he wants to be a star in everything he does.
In a game that I thought would be dull, he played like it was in the middle of the season. He scored three goals and Portugal won 3-1.
I don’t know if you like him or hate him. What I know is that he respects the sport and his fans.
PS: I believe Nations League is a tournament created so that England can finally win something, and I think they will.
