In December 2016 in the Polish legislation licensed bookmakers must pay a 12% tax on turnover, a tax rate too high to be linked to the Polish government’s intention to somewhat liberalize the local market. Due to this fact many operators, including William Hill, left the gambling market of the country.
As a result, many online operators have gone into the shadows, and their share already accounts for more than 60% of the Polish online games market. Obviously this trend will continue, and although the introduction of a 12% tax on income, brought more than 396 million zlotys to the Polish treasury, measures need to be strengthened. The legal association Graj Legalnie believes that in the event of the adoption of optimal legislative measures, the amount entering the budget may increase to 594 million zlotys.
In Poland, 1,303 websites are blacklisted, including 1xbet, Betrally, RUbet and Dotabet. However, some unlicensed operators simply change domain names and continue to work.
