Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s gambling regulator, has imposed on Tuesday a SEK3m (€285k) penalty on AG Communications Ltd, Aspire Global subsidiary after it has failed to prevent self-excluded customers from gambling.
AG Communications offer its products in Sweden through multiple gambling brands, including its flagship Karamba online casino. According to Spelinspektionen press release, gamblers were able to gamble on AG Communications’ websites, even though they had opted to self-exclude via the Spelpaus.se national self-exclusion register.
In Sweden, it’s mandatory for licensed online gambling companies to connect their operations to the Spelpaus.se which went live on January 1. According to information from Spelinspektionen, more than 30,000 people opted to self-exclude from gambling during the first quarter of the year.
Last month, the regulator hit two other online gambling companies for similar violations. Genesis Global received a SEK4m (€380k) penalty for its self-exclusion shortcomings and Paf had to pay more modest SEK100k (€10k) for less serious wrongdoings.
