Beginner’s luck brings over $1 million

Tiger Woods has always been a favourite pick for golf bettors, so his first Masters win since 2005 gave many of them a great reason to celebrate. But no one was happier than 39-years old James Adducci, who won over $1 million thanks to his bold $85,000 wager.

What’s the difference between boldness and insanity? We would say outcome probably is a defining factor here. This is the case of 39-years old James Adducci, self-employed daytrader, who on Tuesday flew from Wisconsin to Las Vegas just to place an $85,000 bet. If this doesn’t sound insane enough it was his first-ever bet on sports. And he was backing Tiger Woods, without a win at Masters since 2005, to triumph at Augusta.

According to Adducci, he was rejected by a first two sportsbooks visited. Fortunately for him, William Hill, located at SLS Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, was more open to his idea. After getting a surprising call from their employees, John Asher, CEO of William Hill US, accepted a 14/1 odds bet, which was immediately slashed to 10/1, and rest is history. Woods completed his remarkable comeback on Sunday and claimed fifth Masters career win.

On Monday, Adducci flew back to Las Vegas and smiled while posing for pictures holding the check for $1.275 million, which includes his original stake. Only Tiger Woods, who pocketed a little bit over $2 million, was the one who won more at Augusta.
