The Netherlands’ gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has received 79 expressions of interest from companies seeking the country’s new online gambling licenses.
The KSA opened registrations on 5 June and prospective licensees have until Friday (21 June) to complete the registration form on the KSA website confirming their intention to apply for licensure.
The KSA didn’t disclose the names of the 79 entrants although many members of the industry’s familiar face brigade have publicly stated their intention to apply. The KSA has already announced that it won’t be accepting actual applications until July 1, 2020, and the newly regulated market isn’t likely to commence until January 1, 2021, at the earliest.
“Everybody benefits from a smooth process. If we know how many applications we can expect, we can make sure the organisation matches that. This is in our interest, but also in that of the applicants,” said KSA chairman René Jansen.
Among the prospective applicants will be Holland Casino, the state-run land-based casino monopoly whose privatization was scrapped in May, two years after the Dutch legislature’s lower house approved plans to privatize it.
