Norsk Tipping and the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) are investigating their partnerships with Sportradar after reports suggested the data provider may have inadvertently enabled unlicensed gambling operators targeting Norway. The controversy, first reported by Dagens Næringsliv (DN), has raised concerns about Sportradar‘s compliance within Norway’s tightly regulated gambling market.
The investigation centers on a six-year agreement between Norsk Tipping and Sportradar‘s subsidiary, Optima, worth around NOK 30 million annually. This deal provides sportsbook infrastructure and access to global odds data. In response, Norsk Tipping has launched internal checks and plans to engage directly with Sportradar for further clarification.
Roger Soleim, Director of Customer Operations at Norsk Tipping, confirmed the investigation to DN, stating: “The case will obviously be a topic in our dialogue with Sportradar in the near future.” He added: “The information we have now gives reason to request further clarification.”
The NFF, which uses Sportradar for betting integrity tools and match-fixing detection, is also monitoring the situation. Legal advisor Rinor Tahirii told DN: “The case is still in an early phase. We are following developments.” The NFF has underscored Sportradar‘s role in managing competitions not covered by UEFA‘s regulatory framework.
The allegations arise from claims that Sportradar data, including services from Betradar, have been found on gambling platforms blocked by Norwegian authorities. While Sportradar has denied any wrongdoing, asserting it only works with licensed operators, Norsk Tipping has acknowledged the difficulties of sourcing suppliers that exclusively avoid markets targeting Norway.
Soleim noted the industry’s challenges: “In some areas, it is almost impossible to find suppliers that do not also provide services to companies that at some point target the Norwegian market.” Both organizations are currently awaiting more details before deciding on their next steps.
