Costa Rica extradites three suspects in ‘5Dimes Tony’ case

The case surrounding the kidnapping and murder of the founder of the Costa Rica-based 5Dimes sportsbook, William Sean Creighton, continues to move forward. A new development saw three suspects, who were captured by police in Spain, extradited to Costa Rica in order to be prosecuted by this country’s juridical system.

Creighton, who was long known in the Caribbean sports-betting industry as “5Dimes Tony”, was kidnapped last year on September 24. Creighton’s wife then received a call from kidnappers who requested between $750,000 and $1 million in ransom money to be paid in Bitcoin.

Despite Creighton’s family obeying kidnappers orders, 5Dimes Tony was never released. Reports surfaced next month that his body was recovered in remote parts of Costa Rica, but later it was proved that the corpse did not belong to him.

His body is still not recovered up to date and officially he is still regarded as missing. In the meantime, following a trail of Bitcoin transactions, twelve suspects were apprehended by a coordinated effort by Costa Rican and Spanish police forces in January.

One of the arrested suspects in Spain was 25-year-old Costa Rican Morales Vega, who is considered to be a kidnapping mastermind and who fled to Spain after law enforcement started to close in. Morales, along with his 45-year old mother and 24-year old wife, was now extradited to Costa Rica.
