Alberta’s regulated iGaming market is set to launch on July 13, with 46 operators now registered and paid their initial fees to Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC). While initial interest saw up to 70 companies expressing intent to enter the market, the final count reflects those who have completed registration. However, operators must still sign operating agreements with the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) before they can go live.
The latest registration list shows a total of 50 gaming brands, with some operators like Caesars and Penn Entertainment registering multiple brands. Grizzly’s Quest, a brand under Cadtree Limited, has been removed from the list, though Cadtree still operates four other brands in Alberta: Jackpot City, Royal Vegas, Ruby Fortune, and Spin Casino.
Dale Nally, Alberta’s Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction, previously noted at the SBC Summit Canada in Toronto that operators have been collaborating well with AGLC and AiGC. “I’ve had nothing but positive reports from the operators—I’m not saying there have been roadblocks, there have been—but what I’m hearing is that the AiGC and AGLC are working with the industry, consulting, and available to work with everyone,” Nally said. He added that the number of operators has exceeded expectations.
Nally clarified that revenue is not the primary measure of success for Alberta’s market. “Revenue is not even our measure of success. Our measure of success is going to be the feedback: Did they have a fun experience? Was it a safer experience? Was it a responsible experience?” he stated. This focus underscores Alberta’s commitment to prioritizing player experience, safety, and responsible gambling.
The AiGC will oversee the commercial framework, collect gaming revenues, and distribute Alberta’s share to the province. As the launch date approaches, operators are finalizing their agreements to ensure a seamless transition into the regulated market.
