Ukraine re-legalise gambling in 2018

Ukraine has accepted a Ministry of Finance letter promising to re-legalise gambling by 2018, almost eight years after it was outlawed.

A legalisation proposal in 2015 failed as operators felt suggested licence fees and tax rates were too high. It was suggested that those regulations, which would have allowed i-gaming, land-based casinos, sports betting and lotteries, could have generated revenues of US$1.5bn annually.

Aleksandr Danilyuk (Finance Minister) said earlier this year that the government has missed out on US$370m in taxes over the last two years due to the delays in reopening the market.
