Irish president wants to ban advertising gambling

The first person of Ireland, Michael Higgins, made a speech about the desire to ban the advertising of gambling in sports.

“If I had my way, I wouldn’t have advertising of any access to gambling platforms in sport at all. I just think sport should be protected from it. There is no one being heavy about it. What you can do is through education obviously, through the school systems. But you can’t do everything through education. For too long in Ireland we often ignore problems that are staring us in the face”.

The powers of the president in Ireland are mainly limited to advising the government of the country. However, his statements are of great weight in Ireland and can often influence the politicians of the country. The president’s comments will be considered by the gambling industry in Ireland as an appeal to action.
