The Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has distributed new grants through its Addiction Prevention Fund to fund five projects aimed at reducing gambling harm in the Netherlands. The regulator highlights that 20% of the Dutch population is currently at moderate to high risk of developing gambling problems, making these initiatives timely and crucial.
One of the grant recipients is the Anonymous Gamblers Foundation (AGOG), which will use the funds to train additional counselors and develop digital counseling services for areas where face-to-face support is not feasible. This expansion will help reach more individuals in need of assistance.
The Dutch Association for Psychiatry (NVvP) will create specialized treatment guidelines for gambling disorders. Currently, the NVvP provides recommendations to mental health professionals, and this new initiative will help integrate problem gambling treatment more effectively into the healthcare system.
The Trimbos Institute will launch two pilot programs. The first will focus on educating young people about gambling risks through surveys, data analysis, and collaboration with municipalities and stakeholders. The second program aims to enhance workplace support for employees struggling with gambling issues.
Stichting Naast will develop webinars, personalized guidance, and newsletters to assist the families and support networks of problem gamblers. These resources will provide essential information and tools to help those affected by gambling harm.
These new projects reflect the KSA’s commitment to addressing gambling-related challenges in the Netherlands, particularly as the regulator works to combat declining channelization rates and the growing presence of illegal gambling markets.
