Florida legislators plans to revamp the state’s gambling market

Florida state senators filed a major amendment to the gambling bill they filed late last month. Among the most significant changes is a willingness to accept a new 20-year gaming compact with the Seminoles, which was part of the rival bill introduced by the state House of Representatives last month.

The announced changes will also affect the structure of the casino, in which the game of dice and roulette will be allowed. In the opinion of Senator Travis Hutson, the financial “consequences” of such changes could be hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue each year.

The Senate Committee unanimously approved the draft law SB 840, according to which dice and roulette can return to the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa and Hollywood, as well as five state tribal casinos. In return, the tribe will annually pay $400 million to the state budget (today the mandatory tax is $250 million).
