The new gambling overhaul bill passed through the full Florida Senate. Senate members voted 32-6 in support of SB8, proposing a massive expansion of the state’s gambling industry. The bill would allow pari-mutuels around Florida to scrap live racing events whilst keeping their casino-style games. Furthermore, it would add slot machines in eight counties outside South Florida.
The House bill, which moved through its final committee stop on Thursday as well, moves in an opposite direction from the Senate legislation. It would allow the tribe to keep its slot machines and blackjack tables for 20 years, but it would not allow them to add additional games.
