Georgia under the threat of banning online gambling

The turnover of the gambling market in Georgia is more than $4 billion. But online sector is not regulated in anyway. Local authorities believe that the best way out of this situation is to prohibit local players from accessing foreign gambling sites. They consider a variant of radical measures, namely, a complete ban on this business.

Lasha Khutsishvili, Deputy Minister of Finance, believes that this issue is currently on the agenda. However the introduction of a full veto on online gambling is an ineffective mechanism to counteract this area of activity according to international practices of using such prohibitions.
