Portugueses play on unregulated sites

As is known, in 2015 a new law came into force in Portugal, concerning the legalization of gambling, organized on the Internet. Approved list of entertainment, prescribed procedure for licensing online operators, set the size of tax deductions.

However, according to a recently published study, 68% of online casino players in Portugal still play gambling on unregulated sites. According to the data compiled by the local consultancy firm Eurogroup Consulting, approximately 38% of Portugal’s online gamblers have only placed bets with unlicensed operators and 30% have gambled on both unregulated and regulated sites.

The question is that the legalization of gambling online business in 2015 immediately led to the departure from the Portuguese market of international companies Betfair, 888, Rational Group and William Hill. Working in the “gray” zone, without the license of the national gambling regulator, and not being liable to the local fiscal authorities, after the adoption of the law, international operators became illegal and violated the tax legislation.
