The iconinc Sundsvall casino Cosmopol, the first international casino in Sweden, couldn’t to survive a decade of struggle with financial problems. The decline of visitors at the land-based casino had a heavy toll and Svenska Spel decided to close the business which had 68 employees.
Svenska Spel’s president and CEO Patrik Hofbauer commented: “It is a sad message to have to give to our talented employees, but we must adapt to prevailing market conditions. With a constantly declining customer base, the casino in Sundsvall is no longer profitable and then it is unfortunately not commercially defensible to continue to run the business”.
