The UK Gambling Commission warns parents of video game skin betting

Since this week UKGC warns parents over the perils of gambling linked to video games, calling for adults to be vigilant to the dangers of gambling associated with video games. Its warning follows the publication of a Commission paper on virtual currencies, eSports and social gaming.

UKGC chief executive Sarah Harrison noted: «Mums and dads could be giving money to a child thinking that they are playing a computer game when in fact they are gambling and this is real worry. Gambling on e-sports with in-game-items is growing and we need to make sure all gambling is fair, safe, crime-free and protects the young and vulnerable. These unlicensed websites are a hidden form of gambling – they’re parasites feeding off popular video games, presenting a clear and present danger to players including kids».
