UKGC suspends operator group Capen’s licence

Operating and software licenses of charitable lottery operator group Capen have been suspended by the UK gambling commission. Capen Ltd operates the online brands The Little Lottery, The Sports Lotto and Zaffo, as well as the defunct Lottery For Kids. The operator group has been licensed since 2014, while it also obtained a software licence in 2017.

The founder of Capen Ltd is Simon Rydings, who serves as its chief executive, and it specialises in raffle-type draws with smaller prizes. According to the marketing messaging for The Little Lottery, 23% of funds from this brand go to good causes.

The UKGC statement reads: “The Gambling Commission has instigated a review under s116 of the Gambling Act into Capen Ltd (operating licence no 000-036257-R-317724-010).

The review follows concerns that activities may have been carried out contrary to the Gambling Act, not in accordance with a condition of their licence and that the Licensee may be unsuitable to carry on the licensed activities. Pursuant to section 118(2) Gambling Act 2005 (“the Act”), the Commission has determined to suspend the above operating licence.  The suspension of Capen Ltd takes effect immediately.”
