The betting firm 188Bet has announced that it was closing all operations to customers in the UK, Channel Islands, Gibraltar and Ireland with immediate effect. In company explained decision very easy: “This is a commercial decision in a very competitive marketplace.”
The statement also made clear Annatar is solvent and able to meet all financial obligations, with customer funds ring-fenced and safe.
188Bet was once a betting parent of Chelsea and Aston Villa, along with a shirt sponsor of Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic. The company is mainly focused on the Asian market, where they are one of the larger players.
188Bet is the second UK-licensed operator to abruptly shut down this month, following the acquisition of BetBright by UK-licensed 888 Holdings. In BetBright’s case, the site voided all pending wagers, although 888 eventually agreed to honor bets placed on this month’s Cheltenham Festival.
