The Norwegian Gaming Authority Lottstift has ordered the Kindred Group subsidiary, Trannel International, to cease its operations in the country immediately.
The regulatory body states that the Trannel has been operating a number of sites illegally, including Unibet, Maria Casino, Storspiller and BingoLottstift. Norsk Tipping is the only operator licensed to offer igaming in the country.
Trannel was warned several times with the regulator expressing their concerns over the activity in the country.
In its response to the gaming regulator, Trannel stated that Lottstift doesn’t have the authority to order them to stop all operations in the country and they are not denying targeting Norwegian players. Trannel also said, that as it is licenced in Malta, Norwegian gaming regulations do not apply to its business in Malta, and it would challenge any ruling under the European Economic Area (EEA) rules.
However, Lottstift stated that its regulations are compatible with EEA rules and it applies to all operators overseas who are targeting players in the country.
Lottstift and Kindred Group have often clashed over Norwegian market interpretations and regulatory over-reach. In February, the operator was one of seven hit by an order from Lottstift banning Norwegian and foreign banks from processing transactions to its site in February this year.
