Swedish national gambling regulator Spelinspektionen has revealed that 40 per cent individuals signed to local gambling self-exclusion register (spelpaus.se) are between the ages of 25 and 34 years old.
According to Spelinspektionen, the total number added to the register has surpassed 35,000. In May alone, more than 2,800 people signed up to the initiative, which was created on January 1 simultaneously with the launch of the country’s regulated online gambling market.
Spelpaus.se allows Swedish consumers to block themselves from accessing licensed gambling services in the country, and opt out of related marketing campaigns. Players are required to register with their BankID number and then are blocked from visiting igaming sites, while operators are required to remove their details from all marketing databases.
Individuals have options to self-exclude for one, three or six months, or until further notice. Spelinspektionen has previously revealed that the majority of those on the register have self-excluded for an indefinite period of time, which means they are excluded for at least one year.
As part of their licence requirements, gambling operators are obliged to integrate with Spelpaus.se, with the regulator already sanctioning a few hefty fines to companies which failed to comply with this condition.
