Uruguay banned foreign online gambling

The authorities of Uruguay banned the activities of foreign online gambling sites, and also increased tax for the national monopolist La Banca de Quinielas.

Under the terms of the new law, La Banca de Quinielas will be able to operate on the territory of the country in the field of online gambling, offering customers only sports betting. The rest of the activities are vetoed.

The operator undertakes to pay 0.75% of the turnover in the business. The tax rate applies to all categories of activities that the national company provides: casinos, slot-rooms, PPP, racetracks, etc. Measures to combat illegal gambling include blocking access to industry websites, finance, the ban on commercial contracts, sponsorship and advertising of unauthorized games.
