Regional Court in Bratislava reversed the ban imposed on gambling

The Regional Court in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, made a verdict that the ban imposed on gambling did not comply with the law. The ban ended up being overturned and gaming houses can continue their operations.

Ivo Nesrovnal, the Mayor of Bratislava, said that the Court’s ruling literally crushed the opinion of more than 135,000 citizens of Slovakia’s capital and all people who oppose gambling. As a response to the Regional Court’s decision, he said that the city is to take the legal matter to the Supreme Court.

First time the ban was adopted by city councillors at the second attempt, as the first that took place in February 2017 failed as not enough officials raised their hands in favour. The voting came to life after a petition that requested a gambling ban was signed by approximately 130,000 citizens.
