A man has been jailed after a series of axe-wielding robberies in post offices and bookmakers in Bexley and Dartford (English cities in Greater London).
31-years old Michael McClusky was sentenced to ten years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery. McClusky, along with another man, entered various commercial premises in possession of axes, threatening staff and stealing money and other items.
The first offence occurred on January 30 at a bookmaker’s in Avenue Road, Bexley. Two men armed with axes entered through the front door and walked to the counter. They smashed through the glass window separating the staff from the customer. One of the men put the axe to the staff member’s throat. The pair stole more than £2,000 in cash along with cheque books and keys to the fruit machines.
The next two took place in February when McCluskey and his partner in crime twice tried to rob post offices. The suspects later were seen getting into a red vehicle, believed to be a Volkswagen Golf. This consequently led to Police chase and arrest, with McClusky being already out on licence at the time he committed these offences.
McClusky’s sentence will see him serve seven years imprisonment and a further seven years on license.
