Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has followed up on its Spanish entry, by securing an affiliate licence to enter the regulated market of Romania.
The Class II license, issued by the National Gambling Office (ONJN), allows GiG’s Media Services division to refer traffic to licensed online casino and sportsbook operators in the country.
The operator has stated that that securing the new Romanian licence fits in with its ongoing strategy of expanding into regulated markets around the world.
“We are expanding into another regulated market, where we will be able to utilise the full range of marketing channels available across both the sports and casino verticals. Romania is still a developing market and with good projected underlying growth in the online sector which has accelerated in the last couple of years.“
Supporting its debut in the country, GiG states that 19 per cent of all gambling in Romania is made online, with the market valued at $1.5bn based on total gross win, with an estimation of online gambling growing to 30 per cent by 2024.
In January, the Romanian government introduced a new 2% monthly turnover tax for online gambling operators licensed in the country. The new tax has been imposed in addition to existing licence and authorisation requirements.Follow us on
