Division 2 betting markets suspended in Sweden

After receiving a request from the Swedish Football Association (SvFF), all betting markets and odds relating to the Division 2 Sodra Svealand football league have been suspended by state-owned company Svenska Spel after several suspicious betting patterns have been identified.

Svenska Spel has revealed later, that it “does not see any other solution” to crack down on match-fixing other than to stop offering betting on this specific league. Following an investigation by various integrity monitoring bodies, it is estimated that as many as 13 matches are suspected to have been influenced by gambling activity.

“The situation that has arisen is so serious that we are unfortunately forced to take action to suspend the betting markets to safeguard the integrity of the league and prevent manipulation for the rest of the season,” SvFF secretary general Hakan Sjostrand explained.

“With so many suspected games that the integrity of a whole league is to be questioned, Svenska Spel does not see any other solution than to stop offering betting on Division 2 Sodra Svealand. We will also continue with all our other activities such as education, cooperation and monitoring in order to fight match-fixing,” added Linnea Hedberg, PR lead at Svenska Spel.
