Japan follows the example of its neighbors China and South Korea and creates an e-sports association that will be called Japan Esports Union, or JESU.
Executive vice president of Sega Sammy Holdings Hideki Okamura will become director of JESU. New association has committed itself to promoting and supplementing the growth of cybersport competitive games in its country.
“By 2019, the global audience of e-sports will reach 300 million people, and by 2020 – 500 million. No different from real sports, eSports is especially popular in Asia and the US, and in Japan there is also hope for its development. We will try to promote e-sports and raise the social status of e-sports in Japan”, – said Okamura.
