Massachusetts is the latest state where state lawmakers are eyeing the possible future of legal sports betting in the US. But The Supreme Court of Massachusetts has decided to lift the ban, and the legislature does not rush to legalize sports betting in the state.
The United States Supreme Court repealed the Law on the Protection of Professional and Amateur Sports (PASPA) two months ago, nevertheless the state government prefers not to rush to this and has not yet appealed to the General Court.
“The Congress can reconsider this issue at any time. This is a big part of the story. The states now have the opportunity to engage in sports betting, but it is possible that at some point another federal law will come into force”, -commented Michael McCann, director of the law school of sports and entertainment at the University of New Hampshire School of Law.
