March was the second month in a row where Nevada casinos beat $1b revenue mark in gaming win. However, it was actually a slightly less profitable March than last year.
New figures were released on Thursday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Official gaming revenue in March was $1.023b and it presented a slight $1.2 million decrease comparing to March 2018. Gaming win is the total won by casinos against players for slot machines, table games and race and sports pools.
The biggest culprit of this decline was a ‘table, counter and card games’ category, which reported revenue dropping by 8.75% to $347.7m. Most of this happened because of baccarat bringing only $53.6m, which is less than half of last year revenue. However, the majority of it was covered by other table games providing a revenue boost.
Revenue also dropped at sportsbooks. The likeliest cause for 4.8% drop to $32.5m was American Football bettors cashing their $12.2m worth of winners after the season was over.
Sportsbetting was however extremely popular. Total wagers were worth $596.8m with NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament providing more than 80% of it ($495.1m).
It was 42nd time the state has recorded more than $1 billion in a monthly win. The highest ever came in October 2007 when the state recorded $1.165 billion.
