Denmark’s gambling authority Spillemyndigheden reported an increase in unlicensed online Bingo games during Covid-19 pandemic, mainly through social media like Facebook, and issued a warning to operators. Holding bingo games that require payment for participation is illegal without a license!
Morten Niels Jakobsen, Director of Spillemyndigheden, said: “We certainly understand that at this particular time, there is a great desire to unite people through enjoyable entertainment such as bingo games, which is a game that can easily be adapted to the current requirements to keep distance.
However, when holding bingo games where a deposit is required in order to participate and you can win a prize, it is covered by the Act on Gambling’s licence requirements. In such cases, this means that it is illegal to offer online and drive-in bingo without a licence from the Danish Gambling Authority”
The same time, Netherland’s gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit, said they were confortable with online bingo! At least during this Covid-19 pandemic. Netherlands faces lockdown measures and bingo has become very popular.
While Kansspelautoriteit is keeping an “extra sharp eye” on commercial bingo and especially when it comes to protecting players, it’s announcement stated: “The KSA recognises that in these times of Coronavirus, there are initiatives to give people a fun pastime to help them in their isolation without having to leave home. These games are often organised by people with a good heart. In view of the special circumstances, the KSA has decided to be temporarily lenient in these cases,”Follow us on
