The government of South Cores said that the decision was made during a recent Korea Lottery Commission meeting assured that the new measure will improve buyer convenience.
The Ministry of Strategy and Finance ran a survey in 2015, which showed that more than half of the residents in South Korea, 56.5 %, bought a lottery ticket at least once. Of the survey’s 1,000 respondents, more than 93 % said they spend less than US$ 8.90 in buying a lottery ticket.
Lotto is extremely popular in South Korea since being introduced in 2002, with recent ticket sales topping 3.55 billion tickets. According to figures recently published by the Korea Lottery Commission, this is an increase of 9% from the previous period and generated over $3.04bn in 2016.
