Tabcorp inks sports betting partnership with NBA

Australian betting and gaming operator Tabcorp has agreed a multi-year partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA) that will see the firm become NBA’s authorised, although not exclusive, sports betting operator in Australia.

The partnership will also bring NBA TV, the league’s 24-hour television network, to Tabcorp’s Sky Channel in more than 4,400 bars, pubs and TAB betting outlets in the country. In addition, Tabcorp will create unique NBA content and experiences for fans within its venues.

“Tabcorp’s extensive retail network will bring NBA TV to millions of fans throughout Australia. We also look forward to working with Tabcorp on integrity monitoring in their new role as an authorised sports betting operator,” said Scott Levy, Executive VP of NBA Asia.

NBA fans will also be able to watch the US basketball games on ESPN via Foxtel, or they could use the paid online steaming options offered by the NBA.

As the authorised betting partner of NBA, TAB will be allowed to use official NBA league marks across its platforms. Tabcorp and the NBA will also collaborate in sharing data regarding the betting activity that is found suspicious, as well as information about suspended match-fixing.

Customers of the TAB betting brand were found to be betting more on NBA games than they do on any other sporting league, including the National Rugby League (NRL) and the Australian Football League (AFL).
As revealed by Tabcorp, the income generated by betting on NBA matches has increased by more than 50 per cent over the past five years.

The new partnership comes after Tabcorp last month also agreed a similar deal to become the official betting partner of the National Football League (NFL) in Australia.
