The German government admits that cybersport can soon be included in the list of Olympic disciplines. After long negotiations, Angela Merkel’s CDU and Martin Schulz’s SPD are closing on a coalition, and one of the subjects on which they agreed was the recognition of esports as sports.
Within the framework of his election campaign, representatives of the Social Democratic Party: “We are aware of the growing importance of the cybersport industry in Germany. We will consider how it will be possible to improve the conditions for it”.
Germany is a trendsetter in European e-sports. Germany is represented by popular organizations Mousesports, SK Gaming, PENTA Sports, as well as the leading tournament operator ESL. Berlin is also entrenched as the home ground of the European League of Legends – EU LCS. Cybersport was also recognized in Russia, Finland, France and a number of other countries.
