Two more Swiss casinos secure online licences

Swiss gambling regulator the Eidgenössische Spielbankenkommission (ESBK) has granted online gambling licences to two land-based casinos, Grand Casino Kursaal Bern AG and Casino Interlaken AG.

Both can launch online operations as soon as the ESBK approves their online gambling product offering. Casino Interlaken is already teasing a countdown to the launch of its gambling website, which will operate under the StarVegas brand. StarVegas is operated by Novomatic’s Malta-licenced Beatya Online Entertainment subsidiary and is already operational in Italy and Spain.

The Bern venue, which is operated by Casinos Austria International, has yet to detail its online plans, but CAI has partnered with online gambling operator Betway in other markets.

The Bern and Interloken casinos join Grand Casino Baden, Casino Davos, Grand Casino Luzern and Casino Zürichsee in securing online gaming licences. Grand Casino Baden was the first to launch its offering in July.

New Swiss gambling legislation, which came into force on January 1st, reserves online gaming licenses for the country’s 21 licensed casinos.

The ESBK can issue permits to land-based casinos across the country, while foreign operators are blocked. Last month, Swiss gambling regulator updated its blacklist of unlicensed gaming operators, with a total of 17 websites added to the blacklist.
