Yerry Mina charged with breaching FA betting rules

Following an investigation into a potential breach of betting regulations, Everton’s Yerry Mina has been charged with misconduct by the FA.

The Premier League defender is alleged to have breached betting regulations after it was confirmed that he featured in an advert for gambling company Betjuego, in his home country of Colombia earlier this year.

FA Rule E8 (3) states that “an individual participant, when acting in a personal capacity, shall not be permitted to advertise or promote any betting activity” related to any football match or tournament around the world.” This applies to players at teams in the English football pyramid, as well as all club officials, team staff and match officials.

Mina has until Friday to respond to the charges when his case will be heard by an independent regulatory commission. Multiple factors are set to determine the potential sanctions that the 24-year-old will face and is believed that the advert in question was removed as soon as Mina realised he might be in breach of the rules.

Mina signed for Everton for £28m from Spanish LaLiga giant Barcelona in August of last year, following his World Cup heroics which included an injury-time equaliser against England.
