No more bets on the royal baby’s gender

The gender of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby has apparently been revealed. If the UK’s bookmakers are to be believed, it’s definitely a girl. Now royal betting will be focused on a child name, with Diana topping a bookmakers’ list.

Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, are keeping plans about their impending baby as secret as possible, but speculation over what gender the royal baby will be has reached fever level.

After an overwhelming amount of bets placed in recent days from people convinced the royal couple is having a girl, a large number of bookmakers has decided to stop taking bets on the baby’s gender.

“The secret’s out, as far as we’re concerned,” said William Hill spokesman. “It could be because someone somewhere has seen the scan, or someone has heard something.”

Now royal betting will focus on a child name where the first five in the market are girl’s names. So far, Diana is topping the bookmakers’ list as a front-running name, with a previous leader Victoria, Alice, Grace and Elizabeth close behind.

“A ridiculous number — 80% of bets taken — are for the name Diana,” said William Hill representative.

Also, Ladbrokes reported that 2 pounds have been staked on the name Brexit — with odds of 500/1.
