Dutch gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has confirmed that it received 183 notifications from companies interested in applying for online gaming licenses in the Netherlands.
The KSA opened registrations earlier this month, with prospective licensees having until Friday 21 June to complete the registration form on the KSA website confirming their intention to apply for licensure.
On Monday, June 17, the number of companies interested in an online gambling licence for the Dutch market was 79. On Thursday, June 20, the number of companies increased to 125, and just one day later it rose to 183.
More than half (89) of the registrants are foreign operators, of which 83 already hold some form of igaming licence in another country. A further 74 prospective applicants are active in the Dutch land-based gaming market.
The KSA has already stated that not all of them will receive a permit, as strict requirements have been set. Applicants are tested for reliability and integrity, there are financial requirements and other conditions that include addiction prevention.
Applicants will be expected to pay a €45,000 fee, then a €830,000 guarantee if they are approved to operate in the market. The regulator will be able to begin processing applications, with a view to opening the market on January 1, 2021.
