Illegal Gambling Crackdown in Philippines: 8 Bookies Arrested

Rizal police in the Philippines  conducted a series of coordinated raids on Friday, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals involved in illegal gambling operations across Morong and Teresa. The crackdown, led by the Rizal Police Provincial Office, targeted underground betting rings operating in residential areas, seizing cash, betting materials, and other evidence.

The arrests followed reports of suspicious activity, with police acting swiftly to dismantle the illegal operations. Authorities confirmed that the raids focused on illegal numbers games, often referred to as “bookies”, which operate outside legal gambling regulations.

Morong Raid

A joint operation by provincial and local police forces took place at 7:40 p.m. on T. Claudio Street, Barangay Maybancal. Seven individuals were arrested during the raid. While their full names were not released, they were identified by street tags: Ulysses, Jay, Raldie, Ian, Noel, Jonas, and Rexon.

Police recovered P3,415 in cash, along with betting tools such as calculators, notebooks, ballpens, betting receipts, a plastic container, and a shoulder bag. The seized items indicate a structured operation focused on illegal betting activities.

Earlier that day, officers from the Teresa Police Station responded to a tip about suspicious activity beneath a house in Dulumbayan. Arriving at the scene by 6:00 p.m., they found Jose involved in illegal numbers gambling. Authorities seized betting stubs, receipts with written bet numbers, a ballpen, a sling bag, and P40 in cash.

The raids underscore the hidden nature of these illegal operations, with police stressing the importance of community cooperation in identifying such activities.

The eight arrested individuals are now in custody, facing charges under Presidential Decree No. 1602 and Republic Act No. 9287, which prohibit illegal gambling. Formal complaints are being prepared for court.

Rizal Police Provincial Director Eleazar Barber Jr. commended the police units for their swift and coordinated response. He reiterated the office’s firm stance against illegal gambling, emphasizing that intelligence-driven operations and community support are key to sustaining peace and order in the region.
