Mr Green shuts down sportsbook in Germany

Mr Green, a William Hill brand, decided to stop operation its German Sportsbook service. Affiliate partners received an email from the operator which reasoned the decision. “Due to recent gambling regulation changes in Germany, Mr Green is closing all German sports betting operations with immediate effect. We kindly ask you to remove all Sportsbook content from your German marketing channels as soon as possible”.

iGaming regulation in Germany is a long ongoing process and negotiations for a long-term regulatory model will continue into 2020. Last year, Germany ratified Third State Treaty on Gambling, which is applied for 16 federal states, while until 2021 Schleswig-Holstein will be permitted to continue with its own model.

Mr Green was founded in 2007 by Swedish entrepreneurs and in January 2019 the company was acquired by William Hill PLC in a cash offer of £ 242m.
