Internet providers in Poland blocked websites from the “Registry of Prohibited Domains” in accordance with the “Law on Gambling” from July 1.
The financial department of the country has prepared a list, which now has 481 domains of illegal bookmakers – this is much more than in early June. Then the list included 254 positions. In the roster you can find many popular betting sites, among which: Bet-at-home, Unibet, Expekt.com, Bet555sports.com, Betclic, casino440, Mbet and others.
Marta Kostka, president of the Association of Employers and Employees of Betting Companies, said: “The gray zone” of the market is more than 90% and it accounts for 5 billion PLN (1.4 billion USD). The new rules will help reduce the gray area in the betting market and among gambling sites. The banned bookmakers did not pay taxes in Poland and did not have the appropriate license. Thus, they had a competitive advantage, compared to legitimate bookmakers. We expect that after July 1, significant progress will be made in reducing the shadow economy and modernizing the betting sector”.
