Portuguese casinos reached €318 million in revenue in 2018

Casino industry in Portugal improved performance (3.1%) with more than €318 million in revenue last year. The biggest threat for the thriving casino industry is – probably – the online gambling segment.

Estoril-Sol, leading casino operator, continued to dominate in country. The company, which is controlled by casino mogul Stanley Ho, operates casinos in Lisbon, Estoril and Povoa de Varzim and reported annual turnover of just under €196.8 million ($224.55m). This was a residual increase of 2.4% year-on-year.

While not being the recipient of the most revenue, the Solverde Group reported the highest increase. The company, which owns casinos in Algarve, Chaves and Espinho, had revenue of €93.6 million, which amounts to an increase of 4.8% over the prior year’s numbers.

All the other casino operators in the country, except the Pestana Group, also reported improved performances in 2018. The Pestana Group shows a decline in its revenue by 3.1% last year, to a total €8.4 million.
