Saudi Arabia may lose its right to participate in 2018 World Cup

FIFA is considering an option of exclude Saudi Arabia from the 2018 World Cup. World football’s governing body is closely monitoring apparent political interference involving Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates over the last few months.

In the case of Saudi Arabia, the result of the interference could be shattering since, if proven true, it could endanger their participation in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

During the recent Gulf Cup of Nations in December Saudi government-backed and state-run media channels offered large financial bonuses to the Bahrain national team players if they “defeated the terrorists”. Other recent episode is the refusal of Saudi and UAE teams to allow teams to play in Qatar or to receive Qatari clubs in their countries in the recently begun Asian Champions League campaign.
