Golden State Warriors set as heavy favourites in NBA Finals

The Golden State Warriors have been made heavy 1.3 favourites to beat the Toronto Raptors in the 2019 NBA Finals. The best of seven series will start on Thursday, May 30.

The defending champions Warriors are also slight (1.5 points) favourites to win Game 1. It is despite playing without forward Kevin Durant, Most Valuable Player (MVP) of 2017 and 2018 Finals, and coming off a nine-day layoff where rust is to be expected following sweep (4:0 win) over Portland Trail Blazers in Western Conference Final.

Led by spectacular guard Stephen Curry, the Warriors have been favoured in each of the past four Finals, which they lost only in 2016. However, this is the first time they don’t have homecourt advantage. Toronto Raptors, with forward Kawhi Leonard leading the way, advanced to the Finals for the first time in franchise history after eliminating Milwaukee Bucks 4-2.

The Raptors won both meetings with the Warriors this season: 131-128 in overtime in Toronto on November 29 and 113-93 in Oakland, California, on December 12.
