Betfred extends World Snooker Championship sponsorship

Bookmaker Betfred will continue as title sponsor of the World Snooker Championship until at least 2021. World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn and Betfred boss Fred Done signed an extension on Wednesday at the tournament’s home, The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

The Betfred World Championship is considered the biggest event in snooker and is watched by 500 million people in over 120 countries around the globe. The 17-day event features 32 of snooker’s top players battling for the famous trophy and the first prize of £500,000.

2019 edition is currently in progress and after Wednesday’s quarter-finals, there are only four players left in the tournament which will end on May 6. Last year winner Mark Williams isn’t among them after he was eliminated by David Gilbert in 2nd round.

World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn expressed his delight in the continuation of the partnership.

“We are delighted to extend our partnership with Betfred for at least another two years. This is our biggest event and it is fitting that we are working alongside a fantastic sponsor.”

Betfred first sponsored the tournament in 2009 and a new deal will take the partnership to at least 12 years.
